About
The Rwenzori Women for Health (RWFH) is an outreach program based at Kagando Hospital, Uganda founded in August 2012 by Rita Miller. The program aims to empower women in rural communities to look after their health and that of their family and community.
RWFH teaches men, women and children about various health topics, performs regular health screenings (including diabetes and HIV) and runs medical treatments with the support and further resources of Kagando Hospital when necessary.
The RWFH supports a range of staff that consist of both nurses and field workers. In addition to health & cancer screenings, and medical treatments such as deworming, the RWFH conducts play therapy with children, nutrition classes and provides emotional support for young people affected by HIV. It also provides feminine hygiene products, classes on how to sew and stitch their own menstrual pads and education about puberty and menopause. Additionally the RWFH runs a 'Rwenzori Bikers Safety First' program, teaching women about how to safely transport themselves and their children on the local BodaBoda bikes and also helping the vulnerable bikers themselves. You can read all about the programs, responsibilities and achievements of the RWFH here.
All of these things have had a hugely positive impact on the local Rwenzori citizens. Rita does everything she can not to be a financial burden on the hospital and to ensure the RWFH is fully funded.
This is why we're raising money - to ease their financial burden and ensure they can keep providing these essential life saving services. You can donate following the button below or any donation link on this site.
My role in this is giving you extra incentive to donate! That is where my journey to Kyushu comes in. You can pledge money to support me in all of the qualification swims that I will be doing throughout the year, and you can splash your big bucks on the big event: The FINA Masters World Championship.
100% of your donations will be going to the Rwenzori Women for Health. My journey to Japan is entirely self-funded, and none of the proceeds are used for training, accommodation, travel or even the hosting of this website!
